A new face is walking the halls of Jamesville-DeWitt High School. Katie Rybinski was hired on as a new resource teacher. How did she get this job? Simple. She saw the position in the paper, applied, interviewed and got the job and is now teaching in G19.
Mrs. Rybinski has her bachelor’s degree in education from Nazareth College and received her master’s in special education at local Le Moyne College.
Mrs. Rybinski has been shuttling between Syracuse and Rochester for the past few years. She moved from Nazareth after her getting her bachelor’s degree to her first job at Our Lady of Pompei School in Syracuse. She was also working on getting her master’s at Le Moyne College for two years. She then took a job in the Rochester City School District for three years, and then came back to Syracuse to work at the Mid-State Regional School Support Center at OCM BOCES as a Regional Coach/Trainer for the Reading First and State Improvement programs for the past four years. She supported schools in the City of Syracuse, Binghamton, Endicott, Utica and Rome. Mrs. Rybinski left BOCES because she wanted to work more directly with students again. This desire brought her to J-DHS.
Mrs. Rybinski was inspired to go into teaching by her grandmother. “She was a teacher and often would share stories of her experience teaching in a one room school house,” Mrs. Rybinski recalls. “It was my student teaching experience in the Rochester City School District that sparked my interest in special education.” The reason why, Mrs. Rybinski says, is, “I really enjoy helping my students learn and be successful.”
Now, Mrs. Rybinski lives in Pompey with her husband John, her sons Connor and Kyle, and the family dog, Jack. She says she “is very impressed with Jamesville-Dewitt High School, the staff, and students. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I am excited to be working here!”
